LUC Student Poster Conference - a success!
To mark the end of "Designing Academic Inquiry", a core research methodology course in the LUC Year 1 curriculum, 12 May 2011 saw all our current students display their group research output on various topics of concern to the city of The Hague.
From a media-savvy documentary of a bicycle journey through The Hague to a photo essay of architectural aspects along Tram Route 1, from the statistical disconnect between fast food chains and local obesity to the qualitative tabulation of individual attitudes towards food waste, and from the green grass furling around an investigation of sports and leisure facilities to the minimalist windmill quadrisecting questions of identity embodied in public open spaces, the conference was a crystallisation of interdisciplinary thinking, hard-earned teamwork, and theory in practice.
Bustling in and out of project venues, discussing graphics on the staircase spanning the three floors of the conference, and quizzing fellow presenters on the significance of their findings, students not only defended their research design and explained their analyses, but also circulated amongst the other projects and evaluated the way in which their peers approached their respective topics.
After two hours of presentation and appreciation, LUC students and staff congregated for closing remarks by Ingrid van Engelshoven, Alderwoman for Education and Public Services at The Hague, who, impressed by the diversity of inquiries and the creativity of designs, praised the pace at which LUC has established itself as a national centre for educational innovation and academic excellence.

Congratulations to all our first-year students, with special thanks to the steadfast guidance of course instructors Dr. Thomas Bundschuh, Dr. Yih-Jye Hwang, Dr. Lucie Spanihelova and course convenor Dr. Cissie Fu--what a winning way for LUC to be welcomed to The Hague, and what a rewarding way to welcome The Hague into LUC!
