First Current Affairs Night

On Wednesday the 20th of April, the first Current Affairs Night took place in the LUC College Lounge. In this informal setting, LUC students and staff discussed the global challenges the world is facing today.

After a quick introduction and a recap of the news headlines, the speakers started their sessions:

  • Jaap de Hoop Scheffer - Current situation in Libya

  • Aernout van Lynden - ‘An Arab Awakening?’

  • Chris Goto-Jones - Current situation in Japan.

Each session was followed by a small-scale discussion in which all attendees could participate, exchange thoughts and gain new insights.

Cecilia Diemont, first year LUC Student:
'For me, the fact that conversation and intense discussions did not end as the Current Affairs Night did shows that it was a success. The night was meant to spark a greater interest for discussing current affairs and the enthusiasm and active participation shown illustrates that our student body really is engaged and ready to discuss, and eventually face, these global challenges surrounding us.'
