Anna van Buerenplein: LUC's new College Building and Student Housing

In 2013, Leiden University College The Hague will move to a custom-built facility located at the Anna van Buerenplein near The Hague Central Station. This new and lively College Building will ensure a great sense of community as LUC students will be able to live and study under one roof.

This brand new college building will be completed in time for the start of the academic year 2013/2014 and will be the permanent location of LUC The Hague.

On Thursday 17 February 2011, Fortress Project development, Leiden University and the municipality of The Hague signed an Agreement of Cooperation for the construction of a new university building. The building will comprise class rooms, office space, common areas and a grand café. The top floors will provide housing accommodation for nearly 400 students.

Located near the Hague Central Station this building will house our vibrant student community and will be a hotspot for various social activities, cultural events and student related gatherings.

Paul van der Heijden, Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board of Leiden University: "Our choice of this site is a significant step in achieving our ambitions in The Hague. The Hague is the second location for Leiden University. The ability to provide teaching within a residential concept was an important condition for our vision for LUC The Hague."

Alderman Ingrid van Engelshoven (Education and Public Services): "University education will have a significant economic and social impact on the city. In The Hague it is now possible to specialise at academic level in such fields as global justice, politics and public administration. This is fitting for a city that is known throughout the world as the International City of Peace and Justice. The municipality of The Hague is helping to make this possible by providing good facilities at a prominent location."

Sustainable Design

Sustainability is important to both LUC The Hague and the City of The Hague. It therefore plays an important part in the design of the new building. The highest standard of nature friendly materials will be used for the interior, expressing the importance of sustainability to all visitors and inhabitants of the Anna van Buerenplein, from the first floor to the last.
