The first delegation of Leiden University College Model United Nations

LUC’s very own Model United Nations (MUN) society offers students the possibility to participate in MUN conferences and at the same time to develop their debating and diplomacy skills, their understanding of the United Nations, other international bodies and the world of international politics. On the 9th of February the first ever delegation of LUCMUN left for London to participate in London International MUN 2012 (LIMUN). This is Europe’s biggest MUN conference, with 1250 students representing many different nations in over twenty-five committees and debating the global challenges the international community faces.


Happy Year of the Dragon!

2011 was an exciting and busy time for LUC – so much was accomplished and so many plans were laid for 2012.  It seems particularly auspicious, then, that 2012 is the year of the dragon.


LUC Committees raise funds for Serious Request!

This week the city of Leiden hosts 3FM’s “Glazen Huis”, which is an annual fundraising event with this year’s theme “ This One’s For Mama ”: the money raised will help to provide healthcare, food and shelter to mothers in warzones.

The LUC The Hague programme can now be found in the E-prospectus of Leiden University. Here you can find descriptions of the programme structure, the programme in the first year, the majors, minors, global citizenship component and of course descriptions of the courses.


First-year student, Menno Schellekens, wins ‘Premier Gezocht’!

Menno Schellekens (19), a first-year student at LUC The Hague, was one of the four candidates in the VPRO tv programme ‘Premier Gezocht!’. The candidates needed to convince the jury that they are the next political talent of the Netherlands. Last night Menno won the 'Premier Gezocht!' award.


Year One Success at LUC!

In its first ever year, LUC leapt straight into the top three interdisciplinary programmes in the The Netherlands, ranking a close third behind the liberal arts & sciences programmes in Middelburg (2nd) and Maastricht (1st).


Meet LUC in your country: QS World University Tour!

From September to November LUC will be present at fairs and events all over the world during the QS World University Tour! This World University Tour brings together the best universities from around the world and LUC will be present in several cities. We are looking forward to meet you in your country!


Moving into the Student Housing

From August 17 onwards the second cohort of LUC The Hague students has started to move into the LUC The Hague Student Housing. LUC The Hague offers two student housing locations (at the Stamkartstraat and Enthovenplein) which offer the students apartments.


LUC Student Poster Conference - a success!

Students from the LUC The Hague have been studying issues that are important for The Hague, such as public transport, healthcare, recycling and waste management, security and privacy. They presented the results to Ingrid van Engelshoven, Alderwoman for Education in The Hague in the form of a poster conference.


First Current Affairs Night

On Wednesday the 20th of April, the first Current Affairs Night took place in the LUC College Lounge. In this informal setting, LUC students and staff discussed the global challenges the world is facing today.


Message from the Dean: Second Application Round is Open!

Following on from a very successful first application round, in which LUC received many excellent applications from aspiring students in more than 30 different countries around the world, I am delighted to be able to announce that our second application round is now open.


Britt van der Donk is the new assessor of the Faculty Board

The Faculty Board has a new assessor/student member. The interviewpanel chose, out of six candidates, for our own LUC student Britt van der Donk. We congratulate her on this new appointment and wish her all the best in this function. Monday 11 April she attended the Faculty Board meeting for the first time.


Japan Awareness Panel

On Friday 1 April, the LUC Research Centre and the Modern East Asia Research Centre co-hosted a panel of experts to discuss recent events in Japan, with the intention of disseminating accurate, reliable information, and also to provide opportunity for coordination of some fund-raising activities.
