What subjects can I study at LUC The Hague?

LUC The Hague offers a bachelor’s (honours’) programme in the Liberal Arts & Sciences, which provides both broad, general education and in-depth specialization. The programme addresses global issues, classified according to the broad domains of Peace & Justice and Sustainability. The curriculum focuses on international and global topics, theories and systems. At the end of their first year, students choose one of the five majors.

Interdisciplinarity and the use of real world cases are important characteristics of the curriculum. You learn to understand relationships between fields of knowledge, and to approach complex issues from different perspectives. Throughout the curriculum you are challenged to further develop your personal and cross-cultural communication skills.

How will I know what courses to choose?

LUC The Hague offers you a broad, interdisciplinary programme, with substantial freedom to design your own study programme in accordance with your own personal interests and ambitions. LUC The Hague assigns a tutor to every student. The tutor assists you in exploring your intellectual interests, provides advice on choosing your major and the courses to be included and makes sure you have a program that meets the graduation requirements. The support of the tutor helps you to make informed choices with regard to your career ambitions and/or admission to a master’s programme.

What kind of degree does LUC The Hague offer?

As a LUC The Hague graduate you receive an internationally acknowledged Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree. You are qualified to apply for demanding, selective master’s programmes in The Netherlands or abroad, or pursue a career in (inter)national corporate, public or civil organisations.

Is the LUC The Hague programme accredited?

Yes: the NVAO (the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders) formally accredited the LUC The Hague programme in August 2009.

What will my schedule look like?

A timetable will be provided during the first day of the introduction week. The timeslots of the classes are the following:

Each class has its own timeslot (T1-T8). T1 and T2 represent the Global Challenges courses and Languages courses. These meet 3 x 2 hours per week. All others courses meet 2 x 2 hours per week. Students have 3 or 4 courses per block, equaling three or four timeslots.  On Wednesday afternoon there are no classes. However, this does not mean that students always have that time off: the timeslot will be used for extracurricular activities such as lectures, excursions, etc. Students should thus be available all week from 9:00-18:15.
