Electives & Minors
Electives
To offer liberty in composing an individual curriculum, you have 30 EC that you can complete in various ways:
- a minor in an area outside your major
- go on exchange for one semester
- spend more credits on language
- add more courses to your major
- take courses off-campus, at Leiden University (for example Honours classes), or another university in the Netherlands.
Minors
A minor is optional and consists of 30 EC. There are (1) independent minors, (2) minors in language and (3) minors consisting of courses in a major other than the declared major.
Minors to complement the major
Education Education is one of the most powerful tools to help people make changes in their own lives. This minor focuses not only on the didactical side of education, but also on educational and developmental psychology.
Rhetoric and ArgumentationRhetoric, logic and style are not only important in academia in general, but also in the political and legal arenas. In this minor you study the origins and application of argumentation, rhetoric and style. You also learn the theory and practice of debating.
EntrepreneurshipEntrepreneurship is more than only starting new businesses; it can also mean revitalizing existing organisations or starting new ventures in academia or NGOs. Essential is that students learn to transform their knowledge and ideas into action, to give added value. In this minor, you are encouraged to find opportunities to make changes, and the tools needed to actually make them. This includes analysis, strategy, finance and human resources.
Minors in Language
If you complete 30 EC studying the same language, this can be registered as a minor. This may mean that you have to take courses at the Faculty of Humanities at Leiden University.
Minors consisting of courses in a major other than the declared major
These minors consist of the six core courses in a major other than the declared one. For example, a student majoring in Human Interaction can do a minor in Governance.
