Tutorial support
LUC The Hague tutors are essential to the feeling of ‘community’ in the college, and they are always available to give help and advice to students, whether on academic issues or other things about college life.
Studying at a Liberal Arts & Sciences college is always exciting, yet it can be daunting at the same time. The wide range of options and possibilities, combined with an inquisitive mind, can sometimes be confusing for students who are still forming their ambitions and aspirations.
For most students, this will also be the first time they live on their own, leaving the safe environment of home for a new city or even new country, with new people from diverse backgrounds. The ‘pressure cooker’ of campus life, with all its activities, demands, new areas of knowledge, and deadlines, is invigorating. To assist students with their academic decisions, their adjustment to life as a student, and handling the various challenges that life throws at them, the LUC the Hague tutors are indispensable.
These academics not only support students with the composition of their study programme, but they also stimulate students to explore new areas and to follow their passion, while always ensuring that students combine depth and breadth in their programme and meet the graduation requirements. LUC The Hague tutors are essential to the feeling of ‘community’ in the college, and they are always available to give help and advice to students, whether on academic issues or other things about college life.
First year
During their first year, meetings with tutors will mostly focus on the exploration of interest, interdisciplinarity, and adjustment to life on campus.
Second year
In the second year, these meetings will be used to fine tune the programme, deciding on major, minor, electives, languages etc. Students will also prepare for a possible exchange programme with other universities, and they will start to think about their creative ‘capstone’ project.
Third year
Support in the third year will mostly focus on decisions for life after graduation: which Master program? What are the requirements? Perhaps a traineeship is a better option, or a gap year? What are the possibilities for working in an NGO, in government, in a multinational corporation? Tutors will offer help with applications and stimulate students to think through their choices and the consequences that these can have.
