Characteristics
Leiden University College The Hague offers you a bachelor’s (honours) degree programme in Liberal Arts & Sciences, taught in English in an international environment. LUC The Hague distinguishes itself from other programmes and colleges by focusing specifically on complex, global issues: climate change, depletion of natural resources, poverty, social injustice, international crime and terrorism, to name but a few.
LUC The Hague has taken the two broad domains Peace & Justice and Sustainability as unique, profiling elements in the curriculum. Interdisciplinarity is central to all learning at LUC The Hague.
Educational Concept
Besides its distinctive programme focus, the educational concept of LUC The Hague offers:
- intensive and small-scale education (not more than 20 students per class).
- student-centred didactical methods: presentations, discussions, group work, papers, assignments, moot courts, and especially case studies are used frequently to create a learning environment in which students can excel.
- a strong emphasis on the training of academic skills such as scientific reasoning, research skills, presentation skills, critical and creative thinking.
- courses aimed at increasing awareness of global citizenship, offering tools for international and cross-cultural communication.
- an international orientation, not only in the student population but also in the program, the academic and administrative staff.
- a residential setting in the international city of The Hague: students live and study together, with ample opportunities to organize and/or participate in all kinds of social activities.
- an intensive tutorial system that will guide and assist students through their years at LUC The Hague.
LUC The Hague is a joint initiative of Leiden University and the City of The Hague and combines the long academic tradition of the University with the international setting in the city.
